Roadworks on the Rise

As many of you prepare for that summer getaway, the headline findings from the latest research undertaken by LV= does not make for pleasant reading:

  • Freedom of Information request reveals 21% increase in roadwork numbers since last year
  • A third of car journeys are now affected by roadworks
  • This does support the supposition local authorities are spending to improve and maintain the quality of the country’s roads but, despite this, according to LV=, more than half of motorists feel that the state of the roads in their area are actually declining.

Motorways and main roads remain the key source of frustration for many drivers with the M1 seemingly Britain’s most frustrating motorway for roadworks followed by the M6 and M25.

As well as the inconvenience roadworks can cause, they also pose a risk to your car. One in twenty motorists who have experienced roadworks have had their car breakdown as a result, while close to a million have reported issues involving bumps and dings with other vehicles or internal damage examples of which being brake-pad wear or an overheating engine.

If your summer holiday does involve you taking to the roads then make sure you leave enough time to take into account any delays you might suffer as a result of roadworks. You can also protect yourself by buying breakdown insurance from P F Spare Insurance Brokers with prices starting from just £69. Finally, before you travel, don’t forget the importance of buying appropriate travel insurance.
